"E C G Results"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Cardiology

(as a service user),

My husband had an ECG done this week. When finished was given an envelope addressed to our doctor that we delivered on way home.

We had a text message from our doctor today to say that the results were from 2018. Where was the results from  June 2020? I telephoned cardiac dept only to be told by the person who answered the phone they no longer give results out .They are sent out electronically to the doctor - so why were we given the envelope?

Then the person made me feel I was making this up, insistent this was not the practice. So what’s going on? I hear the doctors say the patient always brings back the results I just hope they resolve this and we don’t have to make a second journey

Thank you for your feedback and please accept our apology for the poor experience. We have brought this to the attention of the Principal Physiologist who advises that ECG results should be posted rather than given to a patient, however as ECG printouts are instant then some physiologists are giving these directly to the patient instead. She would like to apologise to you for any confusion and will make sure that all staff work consistently.

If you would like to share your husband's details with the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), on 01634 825004 or medwayft.pals@nhs.net, the Principal Physiologist will get ensure that the ECG is sent to you with correct date on. As ECGs are printed at the time of the test the date and time on the machine must be incorrect.

If you would like to speak to the Principal Physiologist directly please let the PALS team know and they will be happy to arrange this.

Kindest regards,

The Patient Experience Team
