"Some recommendations"

About: Wathwood Hospital

(as a service user),

After a successful 4 years at Wathwood I would like to thank the responsible authorities and make these recommendations:

1. Hobbies and fairs every 6 months to encourage outside interests.

2. Shared patient canteen for better interaction.

3. Room time out provision for productive management.

4. Access to social internet space.

5. Separate coffee bar.

Therapy sessions have been worthwhile and education has provided some self development.

Minimum medication intervention has contributed to least restrictive practice and management has been based on trust.

I would only request that touches are less invasive and fitted with filters, and at some point shower cubicles are replaced with wet rooms.

Overall a productive experience and one which I would recommend.

Dear Glad 867

Thank you for taking the time to write your post and thank you for your comments.

As you know this year has proved challenging due to the COVID pandemic. However as you know we have external events in our farm area usually 1 or 2 events a year.

Regarding dinning together we generally eat as a ward due to the logistics however we have the patients forum every fortnight where the wards meet up and enjoy lunch. We also have an events planner which offers an opportunity for the wards to meet up and celebrate an event monthly. Sports, horticulture and OT activities also offer opportunities for patient to meet other patients, although this is dependent on when COVID restrictions are lifted.

Our patients have access throughout the day to their rooms if they choose to spend time in there. However we encourage patient to be active throughout the day.

Regarding the internet, it does have to be regulated and observed by staff, patients have time each week to access the internet for personal use and more time when undertaking a course.

We have a coffee bar inside the patients shop which patients can access daily Mon~Fri. We also have a coffee shop open at the weekend that the public and patients with leave can access.

I am glad you found the therapy and education beneficial and that the mentioned, 'least restrictive practice', which we try and consider in every aspect of patients care.

We will aspire to wet rooms when we refurbish the showers, thanks again for your comments they were helpful.

Thanks

Phil
