"Care on EOU ward for coronavirus and pneumonia"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as a service user),

I am writing with regard to my recent stay in Tameside Hospital where I was admitted by ambulance in 06/20 due to illness with the Corona Virus to ward EOU.

On arrival I was first treated and assessed in the emergency department as having bilateral pneumonia before being transferred to the ward. Feeling utterly wretched and iller than I’ve ever been in my life I was greeted by name and with a smile from Jade and that smile meant so much.

The care I received over the following week, the kindness and compassion that was shown by every single member of the staff regardless of their position from consultants to cleaners saved my sanity and my life. I remain in awe at your ability to undertake your roles under such incredibly difficult and stressful conditions, you are all truly amazing and inspirational people. Nothing was too much trouble, you cared for me every minute of every day.

You got me through the most difficult experience of my life and you never faltered. Once I began to recover I began to appreciate the choice and quality of the meals I was offered and I never had the opportunity to thank the catering staff or to say how much I appreciated their efforts.

I am writing to you because I feel very strongly that I need to thank each and every member of staff on the ward and tell you how brilliant you all are. Your wonderful characters, humour and myriad skills are simply fabulous and you deserve every accolade and bucketfuls of praise.

I can only thank you from the bottom of my heart for the care you gave me.

I am home and I am recovering and I would not be in that position if it wasn’t for each and every one of you, I will never forget you.

I have written to the Tameside Reporter and to your Chief Executive because I really hope that within their position they are able to thank and support the members of your team, making sure that they feel appreciated and valued for their incredible work. Your hospital is only ever as good as your staff and as Tameside residents on the rare occasions we have needed our hospital it has always provided excellent care.

You must have suffered incredible levels of worry and stress recently and I hope and pray that you will receive any support you need to care for you over the coming months as you have cared for others.

All my very best wishes and great respect to all of you

Once again Thank You
