"Good Comprehensive Practice"

About: West Suffolk Hospital

Referred by the Practice Nurse for suspected wrist fracture following a fall at my home. Seen in X Ray and within a very short time taken to the A & E Dept. In learning that I had sustained other injuries i.e. heavy bruising to my thigh the Triage Nurse referred me through to a cubicle where I was quickly assessed and a further X Ray taken of my Hip and Pelvic areas. The outcome was that my hip and pelvis were undamaged. I was told that an Orthopaedic Doctor had viewed my Wrist X Ray and had reportedly said my suspect bone was 'old' and arthritic and that I could, if I wanted, have a support to wear during the recovery period with further advice not to wear it all the time but to exercise as much as possible, information also given regarding future physiotherapy. As an 81 year old the diagnosis caused both myself and the Clinician cause to smile about my 'old' bones. Throughout I was treated quickly, with care and respect. The decision to have my my hip and pelvis X-Rayed was a great relief to me and I was very pleased with the outcome.

My only concern was that having self isolated for twelve weeks I was suddenly exposed to several people both in A & E and in the General Hospital area who were not masked. My daughter and I had both travelled from Sudbury wearing masks and we were very surprised when on walking through to the main X Ray area we encountered so many people not masked. I felt very vulnerable.

I understand that as from June 15th all those attending hospital will have to wear masks?

Thank You.
