My frail elderly mother who is 86 years of age, with multiple chronic health issues was admitted to Barlochan House Care Home on the outskirts of Palnackie just before Christmas of 2019. She was initially admitted for emergency respite, as she had become increasingly unable to care for herself at home on her own and was in pretty bad shape; she had reached crisis point. It quickly became obvious mum was not fit to return home and she became a permanent resident at Barlochan House.
On reflection, my mum had required a package of care for some time, however she was reluctant to have strangers in her home. The crisis had been slowly developing for some time but it seemed to gather speed and before we knew it, it had arrived full on. On admission mum was at her most vulnerable and dependent, she had become a shell of the woman she once was.
Slowly but steadily mum improved, psychologically as well as physically. Due to the skill, professionalism, dedication and TLC of the entire team at Barlochan House, mum has made an amazing recovery. Every effort has been made to cater to mums individual needs and to make her feel at home; Barlochan house is lovely, the staff there are warm friendly and genuine and their hard work and resilience has kept her and all the other residents safe from COVID 19.
However, home is where the heart is; very soon mum will be returning back home to live. We never thought this would be achievable, we are all delighted. We will be forever grateful to the fantastic team at Barlochan House.
This is an example of excellence in the Care Home sector and a true success story.
