It’s been just a few weeks since my mother passed, but seeing all the stories of people passing on the news I can’t help be reminded that our grief and sadness was made just that bit easier by the compassion, care and support we received from the staff who cared for her on Wards 4 and 6 at Perth Royal Infirmary.
My mother suffers from dementia which always makes us anxious when she has to come into hospital. This was exacerbated by the fact that visiting was suspended due to covid -19. The nursing staff on both wards were fantastic and every aspect of her care was of the highest standard. Despite us not being able to visit, my family were involved and consulted throughout her stay.Unfortunately her condition did not improve and my sister met with the doctor who explained we were reaching end of life care. He helped her to understand everything and the doctor and Senior Charge Nurse supported her through a very difficult decision to move to comfort care.It made a real difference to know there were so many looking out for our Mum when we couldn’t be there. In the time that we were able to visit mum in Ward 6 we were supported by so many staff - both ward’s Senior Charge Nurses, the Ward nurses, the consultant, the trainee doctors, the nurse manager, the ward receptionist... even the domestic went away to make sure we had more tissues when we were leaving the ward. Every one of them is worth their weight in gold. I cannot find the words to express my sincere thanks to you all. xxx
