"Recurrent loss"

About: Hereford County Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I recently had my 3rd miscarriage. It was my third loss in a year.

Whilst waiting to have the third loss confirmed I had numerous scans. During one internal scan, the sonographer took a personal call on their mobile from their partner. The internal device was still in me throughout this call.

During another scan there were 2 sonographers in the room. They didn’t talk to me. They spoke amongst themselves about a dispute one of them had with a neighbour. During both these scans the purpose was to look for a viable pregnancy, my child, I was ignored throughout.

I lost my last pregnancy in February. I was told to keep the foetal tissue and send it off for testing. I did this at the end of February and was told the results would take 8 weeks. I eventually chased these in May and was told my results came back at the end of February but no-one had told me.

I finally had blood tests yesterday to check for clotting issues, lupus etc.  I was told the majority of my results would be back today. When I phoned to chase I was told this isn’t the case.

I wanted to raise these issues so other women don’t have to go through what I have. Each time through these unprofessional scans I’ve had to sit in the EPU surrounded by happy couples. The fact that ladies losing babies have to sit next to happy pregnant ladies is very unfair.

I must say that I have always had compassion and care from Ceri who is a midwife in EPU and from Sarah who is the Berevement midwife. However the sonographers I saw in February acted unprofessional and cold and made an awful situation 100 times worse
