"Offering no support during Covid-19"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Liaison Psychiatry Nursing team

(as a service user),

I previously wrote about this 3 months ago and still haven't been assessed by this service. I understand that the recent pandemic has made things very different but I am now being told there is NO support available from this service. Instead they advised me via the Feedback service to speak to a neuropsychologist.   The neuropsychologist told me to speak to liaison psychiatry.

So what should I do?   In the meantime I have lost my ability to deal with my own finances, and have twice been told this week that doctors spoke to me of which I have absolutely no memory.   So any advice, treatment plans I just have no means of accessing because people refuse to give me the help I need.   Today I set the grill on fire and only found it by seeing smoke from under the kitchen door.   I'm trying desperately to help myself but knowing these people don't seem to care is very difficult.   If anybody out there knows what else there is available instead of the seemingly defunct Liaison Psychiatry service then I'd be grateful to hear about it.

Hello Huatulco

Thank you for contacting us again on care opinion. I am sorry to hear your finding it difficult to get support at this time. You can obtain information and make a self referral to the Grampian Psychological Resilience Hub at the following link

https://covid19.nhsgrampian.org/for-the-public/mental-health-support/what-is-the-grampian-psychological-response-hub/

You can also contact me on 01224 557425 if you would like me to look into your referral.

kind regards

Les

Thank you for your response. I think there has been a misunderstanding as I haven't been in contact with you before. I've looked at the link you gave but it appears to be for people who are being affected by Covid-19 which apart from shielding and living on my own in temporary accommodation I'm not. I've been trying to get help for a long time, it's not just related to the pandemic. I did have a look at the form in case it was appropriate but it is not on https:// so it means the survey responses aren't sent on a secure or encrypted connection. Something others need to be aware of.

I have been trying to help myself but I need certain skills and guidance to do that and I find I cannot access either. The added difficulty is, of course, that both neuropsychology and liaison psychology have refused to offer me help me figure out what is going on. Each tells me to contact the other. My husband tried to contact them but they don't answer.

Perhaps one day someone will review this situation and understand what went wrong and learn lessons to help others.

Hi Huatulco,

I shared your story directly with the Grampian Psychological Resilience Hub Team today and they are willing to listen and help where they can.

I understand your concerns about sharing your data through an online survey but please be assured Snap Surveys has been thoroughly vetted by the NHS Grampian Information Governance Team and is the internationally recognised gold standard in information security. You can find out more here: https://www.snapsurveys.com/blog/secure-online-survey-data/

If you still don't feel comfortable completing the form there is a number you can call that will provide support with getting through to the service: 01224 550200.

I see Les has also offered support, if you would prefer to call him on the number in his response above, that's fine too.

Take care,

Kirsten (kirsten.dickson@nhs.net)
