"Staff show support, love and care to every patient"

About: The Longley Centre / Maple Ward

(as a service user),

After a rocky start feeling misunderstood scared erratic impulsive and confused - it took support from the staff to settle into the ward. I can’t express via this online form what amazing staff you have working at down at the maple centre.

The support workers were always there when ever you needed them, they noticed when you was struggling and would show love care and compassion to deescalate the situation and support you back in to a calmer frame of mind. there were a few struggles at the start but the staff got to know me quick and put in firm boundaries and understood the difference between my personality or when I was showing cover up behaviour when I was feeling low or distressed.

The staff there will go above and beyond running around to help support you every need. When things did go wrong they put plans in place so the same incident didn’t happen again and you had to gain the trust of the staff in order for it to work. The care, understanding, love sometimes tough love these staff showed (hopefully names of staff will not be taken out )

(Phoebe, Wendy, Sue x2, Jade, Cherrine, Lauren(OT), Katiex2, Fran, Wali, Mariam, Carlo, Becky, Georgina, Dianne, Katie, Taylor, Lauren?(SN), Kim, Gemma, Daniqua? And many more).

I know I have forgotten the names off some staff who were involved in my care but they to played a vital part In supporting me everyday (so don’t get offended if I have forgotten you cause you I called you all different names anyway) these staff under very stretched and stressful situations still managed to remain calm and show support love and care to every patient having a open mind non judgemental and all round wonderful people although when you first get there when scared and unwell you don’t see what amazing people these workers are .

Without the support from these staff I would have being in a very different situation now. They kept persevering with me, even when I was fighting against them they found a way to support me and keep me safe. all the staff in the building are amazing and after staying on other mental health wards in Sheffield the staff at maple and the set up at maple goes above and beyond to support you through a very difficult time.

These staff are challenged physically and mentally everyday but will still put 100% of their understanding and knowledge right to the end of their shift. Fantastic cleaning standards always around the ward doing their bit. Food wasn’t for me as I’m a fussy eater but they always made meal times calm and relaxing. The garden great place to be if you stay were you should if not be warned the staff are on you like wildfire.

It is clear patients safety is at the forefront of the staff teams mind everyday and for the days I was there, including myself they kept everyone safe and well and made the right decision to ensure patients safety. While staff had to physically restrain they did this in the safest calmest way possible talking you through every step of what was happening and what was going to happen next. a lot of staff were involved in the restraint but they kept it to one staff member directing and talking so instruction were understood and manageable to take in during a distressing time. The staff here and the care I received was amazing and hopefully with the advice given in there I will become a more calmer person in society. Thankyou very much Maple ward from the loveable rogue.

Thank you so much for your wonderful comments in relation to the care that you received on Maple Ward. It’s a pleasure to hear that your hospital admission had a positive impact upon your recovery and that the staff were fully supportive with your needs, especially during times when you felt at your lowest. Admission to hospital can be daunting, especially when things are taken out of your control as you mention, so the earliest we can form a relationship with an individual in care means that we can develop effective plans with you and enable you to return to your own life.

I have shared your comments with the ward team who have all appreciated the positive feedback. We will use your feedback as a standard of care that we look to provide to all patients regardless of their circumstances.

Kind regards,

Mark
