"Pre natal care"

About: Udston Hospital University Hospital Wishaw / Maternity Care (Wards 21-24)

(as the patient),

I'm a first time mum and always had a fear of giving birth although I really really always wanted to be a mum, so I've never asked any of my friends/family about their birth stories or watched any of the programmes related, so my husband and I were completely clueless. In the initial probably 15 weeks we felt really let down after things being cancelled, not being told when I had an infection detected after sample, midwives repeatedly forgetting to give me the jabs they said I had to get, midwives changing and generally just feeling like we didn't know whether we were coming or going.

The 3rd midwife (& thankfully the last 1) was Kirstie based in Udston Hospital Hamilton, and I cannot praise her enough. Through every appointment the care, friendliness and professionalism shown to us was amazing. I didn't have the easiest pregnancy but she was with me every step of the way and nothing was ever a problem for her. And then with the covid situation nothing changed (other than the mask) she was still amazing and even more reassuring given the worry I had with going to deliver during this time. Kirstie is a true asset and she is made for the job, even after having our baby girl she has been amazing with making sure we had everything sorted as we were changing areas so it got a bit complicated, but she didn't need to help us with this but she did off her own back. Kirstie I can't thank you enough for everything and I will never forget the care you gave me and how you made me feel

Dear melissag11,

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter! It sounds like Kirstie did an amazing job, this is the standard of care that we aspire to provide for all people accessing our services every time; rest assured Kirstie will delighted to receive your thanks in recognition of her dedication and hard work. I'll make sure your feedback gets to her.

I'm disappointed to hear that you felt let down during the early stages of your pregnancy, it's important that we welcome positive feedback, but equally that we use critical feedback to understand why things don't go so well and how we might be able to make improvements.

If you'd like to share your experience in more detail to enable us to do that please get in touch with our Patient Affairs Team at patientaffairs.wishaw@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Kind regards

Rick
