"I can't express enough how wonderful this team is"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Intensive care unit

(as the patient),

After contracting COVID-19, I spent 4 weeks in FVRH ICU, three weeks of which I was on a ventilator. During this time, I received the highest possible level of nursing and professional care, and I absolutely acknowledge that it was only due to this incredible team that I was able to return home.  The care I received was nothing short of outstanding;  regulations dictated that my family could not be by my bedside in hospital but the staff were able to incorporate small reminders of home throughout my time in hospital, and frequently gave me updates from my family and friends. Nothing was too much trouble, and

the staff went above and beyond anything I could have expected to keep me connected to my loved ones, and made it possible to have my wife and sons virtually by my side. This high-quality care was also extended to my family, who were kept informed and involved in all stages of my recovery process. I can't express enough how wonderful this team is, and will always remember the people who saved my life.

Dear Covid-19 Survivor

Thank you so much for your very kind words about your care and our staff here in ITU.

It was a great privilege to look after you, and observe the amazing recovery that you made. Although we never had the chance to meet with your family, we felt like we knew them, and could tell how much they missed you and cared for you. In these Covid times, we have 'adopted' our patients as our ITU family, to try make up for your loved ones not being able to visit.

Perhaps once social distancing has ended, you could come and visit us when you feel ready, and we would be delighted to see you at our follow up clinic.

Your lovely message will be much appreciated by the medical and nursing team here, and I shall share it with them.

If you need any further help, please feel free to contact us.

Wishing you and your family all the best with your continued recovery.

Heather Riddoch SCN
