"Excellent care during an overnight stay"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Accident & Emergency (Emergency Care) Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Surgical Paediatrics (Children's Surgery) Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

After a choking episode at home we called NHS24 for further advise about attending A&E with our 9 month old. NHS24 sent an ambulance to take us to A&E.

The ambulance crew were very kind and helped put us at ease. I believe they were from the Inverurie station.

At A&E we were looked after by student nurses and doctors who assessed and observed our little boy. We were referred to ENT who felt the best course was to be observed overnight in the surgical ward.

When taken up to the surgical ward at 8pm we were greeted by the night staff. Staff nurse Gemma and student nurse Erin who were looking after us were very supportive and welcoming. The girls made sure my little boy had some dinner and I a coffee as we had not had anything since lunchtime.

A big heartfelt thank you to all the staff on surgical ward, student nurses in A&E, ambulance crew and ENT team.

That sounds like it must've been a pretty terrifying experience, hopefully your baby is now fully recovered. Thanks very much for taking the time to post this feedback, the staff at the Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital will be delighted that they helped to make your stay a positive one. I will, of course, pass on your feedback to surgical ward, A&E and the ENT team. Thanks again.

Hi

How kind of you to take the time to thank the staff involved in caring for your little boy. As Caroline says in her response, this sounds like a frightening time for you all. I hope your wee one has fully recovered. The staff who cared for your son, and for you, sound great. I am sure they will be delighted with your feedback.

It's good of you to also mention the ambulance crew and I am sure they will be equally delighted to see your feedback.

I am so pleased that here at NHS 24 we recognised that your wee one needed urgent care and an ambulance was organised to attend, however I appreciate that this must have been quite a stressful situation. It’s great that after an overnight stay, you wee one was well enough to be discharged.

Thanks again for getting in touch. Many of our staff here at NHS 24 read the stories posted on Care Opinion and it always good to hear of positive stories following a call to our service.

With best wishes to you all.

Shona

Dear Jellybelly,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us through Care Opinion to feedback on your experience.

I can understand how such an episode would be extremely worrying and I hopefully will not occur again.

However, I am pleased to read how you found the attending Scottish Ambulance Service crew both kind and reassuring.

I am extremely proud of our frontline staff in their commitment to providing excellent care and putting the patient at the centre of that care.

I would like to ensure that your feedback is passed onto the crew and to allow us to do that, I would ask you to call 01224 812200 and speak with our admin team to pass on further details as to date, times etc so we can identify the crew from our systems?

Thank you again for getting in touch.

Take care.
