"Terrible doctor in Gynaecology"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

I went to the GP as I have experiencing pain in my stomach and hip. I had bloods done and a scan, they found I had a large ovary and said I might have something else. So I got referred to the Gynae Dept and saw a doctor who had a terrible bedside matter. Treated me like I was wasting his time and asking me questions in a very blunt, sarcastic manner. I was worried about going as it was as I had not had my result from my blood test for cancer and assumed he would tell me (luckily it was negative) and I attended my appt on my own. He didn't examine my stomach and said that he wanted me to go away and try a diet to treat my IBS before he would look at my ovary (which I have since done). I left there feeling upset from the whole experience. I was supposed to see him in Feb and this appt got push to end of May. Of course with the situation at the minute I got a text to say it will be a telephone call (which I totally understand). I now get a text to say it has been cancelled and my doctor has told me he has discharged me saying he believes it gastro problems. I have been waiting for this appt for over 6 months....trying the diet, noting all my ailments so I can better explain this to him but I haven't had the chance. I am now sitting in bed in pain, where I have been on and off for the last 2 1/2 weeks. I understand the pressure that the NHS is under but I thought Id get a call or my appt moved, not just cancelled without even consulting me.

Dear Madam

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments on this website.

I am sorry to read of the problems you have experienced in the gynaecology department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

I was also sorry to learn that you are still in pain and feel that you did not get the opportunity to further explain your symptoms to a doctor.

I would be very grateful if you could contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01296 316042 to talk about your specific experience, and to see how we may be able to assist you at this time.

Kind regards

Anthony Banton
