"My elderly mother-in-law"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My elderly 90 yr old mother-in-law  fell in my home, my husband drove her immediately to Craigavon Area Hospital in excruciating pain, due to a recent chest infection and COPD we were redirected from Non Respiratory Emergency to the main Respiratory Emergency, where a very kind Ambulance Driver assisted her from our car into a chair and pushed her to reception, where a lovely lady took our details and a very short time later we were taken to Triage and immediately into a cubicle where she received most prompt, consideration and above all kind reassurance, a Dr ‘Peter’ was most helpful and gentle in his approach explaining exactly what was happening.

She was taken to X-ray, lovely staff looking after her and again reassuring. She then had the news broken to her by Dr that the collarbone, shoulder and humerus were broken, surgery was not an option. Later admitted to 3 North at Craigavon, she is still currently in hospital, where we are updated frequently as to her condition, which is most comforting to us.

I just want to put on record whilst our experience was one of admiration for these NHS workers, we can’t express enough our gratitude and appreciation in such dangerous and challenging circumstances they treated us with wonderful compassion. I can remember some of staff names unfortunately not all, but they were all remarkable ‘Trudie, Chris. I would love that these staff members would be personally told of our deep appreciation to all involved.

Dear Banbridge relative, thank you so much for the taking the time to share your experience relating to your mother-in-law’s recent fall. We are sorry to hear of the injuries she sustained as a result of her fall and we hope that she is now feeling better. It is encouraging for our staff to receive such positive feedback, especially during the current health care crisis. We can assure you that your story will be shared with all the relevant staff. Thank you again and best wishes to your mother in law for her recovery.

Kind regards

Mairead Casey
