"Mixed experience"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Combined Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

Long history of heart failure. Admitted with excellent care through A&E.

Within 6 hours passed through Assessment Unit, another Assessment ward and ended up on D8, at last a glimpse of Sunlight and Greenery.

A noisy night. Then a doctor who appeared not to have read my notes and certainly was not good at listening tried to treat me with a drug which had affected me badly 3 years before. I refused treatment, signed a self discharge and am fine at home.

In short, marvellous A&E doctor and nurses, excellent nursing care throughout, but doctors should listen to patients.

Dear Telman,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. Naturally I was sorry to hear that your experience was not of a consistent nature or acceptable standard and that you felt that you had no option other than to self discharge.

I am so sorry that you had a disturbed night, lack of sleep is incredibly frustrating particularly when you are not feeling well.

It is disappointing to learn that the clinician did not take the time to listen to your past experience of using a drug that had caused an unfavourable reaction, I will ensure that your feedback is taken back to the teams involved for the purpose of using as learning for the future.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for your poor experience, however on a more favourable note I would like to thank you for your kind words of praise for our A &E Dept., to whom I will pass on your praise, and I have no doubt they will be absolutely delighted to receive it.

should you wish to discuss any part of your experience further, I would be delighted to hear from you either by email at dumf-uhb.dgpatientexperience@nhs.net or by telephone on 01387 241690.

I would like to wish you the best of health and hope that you are staying safe in this current climate
