"An asset to the company"

About: WestMARC (Glasgow) / Manual Wheelchair Clinic

(as a carer),

My partner has Motor Neuron Disease and he was assessed for a power wheelchair in August of last year. We were told at the assessment that once we had a permanent ramp we would get a the wheelchair, no issues whatsoever. However when the ramp was installed the same person who had carried out the assessment backtracked and said that our house would have to be assessed to ensure the chair could be used indoors. Apart from the fact that this was 3 months after the assessment this additional check was never mentioned and even more galling they had 3 months to do it but did not bother.

It was now November and we were told that it would be at least 3 months before this additional assessment would take place. Bearing in mind Motor Neuron Disease is a progressive degenerate disease, it only gets worse, our disappointment left us in deep despair. In addition the person we spoke to delivered this information in a flippant and offhand manner. Over the next three months we phoned repeatedly for the person we had seen initially, to get an update, but we could not get to speak to the same person. Whoever answers the phone kept saying they would let her know we called. As it turned out the staff member was unavailable and nobody checked it. We thought that this was the person who handled our case.

Then on the in late February we got a call from a staff member to say they were bringing the chair on the 5th March. Well the day came, and in came this tornado of knowledge who also came with the chair. A force to be reckoned with, this staff member was fabulous, totally knew their stuff, and so keen to make sure we were both thoroughly satisfied. Even came back the next day to make an adjustment. A fabulous personality with a natural caring attitude, very professional. A person like this is an absolute asset to any company and Westmarc should be grateful to have such a fantastic employee. Since then we have had a couple of fitters in to make some additions to the chair and they also provided a great service.

Backseat Driver,

Thank you very much for posting your feedback on Care opinion. Firstly can I apologise for the difficulty you had initially utilising our service; we really try hard to improve our services based on the comments and feedback we receive from our patients and their families.

I am delighted however to read your comments with regard to the positive experience your partner has had recently from our team, and will be passing this post on to the team member involved.
