"“Emergency appointment” "

About: Marshalls Road Surgery

This surgery on the whole I find fairly well organised , other than the standard difficulty of getting through when the surgery opens over the phone the staff have always been helpful and polite and have had a good over the phone manner. However today I called to get myself an emergency appointment for the reason of needing emergency contraception and was told this was not a valid reason for an emergency appointment and was then told I could have a normal appointment the following Thursday. Anyone who was taken emergency contraception knows there is only a 3 day (72 hour) window to make the tablet as effective as possible. With the “safe sex” and “unplanned pregnancy” agendas being so widely broadcast I found it concerning I could not get an appointment as If the individual (they had no personal information about myself so no idea of my age etc) was very young they would not be able to or maybe be confident enough to source the morning after pill let alone afford to pay for it. I find it bizarre that if then in that given situation the individual then did become pregnant and didn’t want to continue with the pregnancy the NHS would accommodate the appropriate procedures which I feel would cost far more than administering the emergency contraception in the first place. Not happy with that outcome today and hope they re prioritise certain reasons for “emergency appointments”.
