"Personal womens issues not dealt with much care"

About: Caversham Group Practice

I've been with this practice since I was born (40+ years ago). I'm relatively healthy by UK standards but as the years went on I've had multiple issues, the main thing being unexplained pains.

I saw a rather cold doctor who asked various questions quite robotically, that's fine I don't really do small talk either, but as the appointment went on I realised she seemed rushed and wanted to get it through as quickly as possible. I do understand that gps are being stretched beyond what we would all want for the NHS, so I didn't take this personally. We did an examination below which was unsuccessful, she was pretty brusque and didn't seem very experienced dealing with patients in this way. She made an appointment for a scan at the local hospital, and then I went off down the road to have a blood test done. I suffer from stress and anxiety attacks, so not knowing, not being informed about possibilities or having any reassuring words, made my situation worst.

Expecting a letter of appointment from the hospital, I waited a month but heard nothing, so I called the gps and was told to ring up the hospital. I got no reply from the number given over a week of calls. So a week later I rang again and the receptionist (different from the first) said it hadn't been put through, she sorted out the problem there and then and I finally received my scan appointment. She also informed me that the gp I had seen had left the practice, so I had to start again with someone new who didn't know my personal history:(

It took until the end of September until I had my scans done and I could finally see the new gp with the results. I have two (known) chronic conditions, one of which I was prescribed with a treatment I now realise I'm unable administer. I suspect I have another condition which the first gp may have known about on my examination, but didn't want to stress me more with it. The new gp didn't know this and it was only after I tried the treatment did I realise the problem.

I'm now considering weather to call the gps again or just to look for alternative treatments recommended by other people suffering with the same conditions as myself. I'm afraid my experience of gps hasn't given me much trust and I may even look to either a clinic or even try to get a referral to a specialist instead. I honestly don't know.

I am very sorry that you have had such a difficult experience with your recent consultations at the surgery. These are very serious complaints and I would be grateful if you could contact me personally at the surgery so that I can investigate what went wrong for you in order to try and improve our service both for you and for all our patients in the future
