"Drug addicts"

About: The Enterprise Practice

I had a very poor experience at the practice whilst i took my sons for an appointment. Whilst we waited 2 ladies visibly intoxicated with drugs were ranting and making a scene. They then started to ask another addict for diazepam and said they would pay £10 for a tablet. They begged the lady for 1 tablet and whilst all this exchange is going on the practice reception staff did nothing. The lady who took the tablet was shaking hysterically so surely the practice should have intervened and got them specialist help asap. My children were really scared by what they saw but staff did nothing.

Dear service user,

We were very sorry to hear about your experience at the surgery today and wanted to let you know that our reception staff and the on-call GP did assist the two ladies in obtaining the medical help they required. For data protection reasons, we can not discuss the two patients at the centre of your complaint, however we can verify that they walked in from the street, presumably because they wanted medical attention from the Walk-in-centre within our building.

As we consider it a duty of care to assist anyone with an urgent medical need (whether they are our patients or not), we informed our duty doctor immediately. Reception staff attempted to arrange admission to hospital via an ambulance but this offer was rejected. Reception staff then helped the two patients obtain an appointment with the Walk-in-centre.

We can also verify that when reception witnessed the patient attempting to purchase drugs from another patient in the waiting area, they intervened and informed the other patient that they must not give any drugs to the other two patients. Once the two ladies were seen by the walk-in centre the situation was resolved.

Thank you for taking the time to write to us.
