"Complaint"

About: Western Infirmary/Gartnavel General / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I'm in my sixties and last week I went to casualty with a long-standing back problem. The exercises I'd been told to do to ease it, were no longer working and the pain was almost all the time. I'm a keen walker and that usually helped but not lately. I wanted it checked, it was causing my right hip to be quite sore as well and I'd often have pain in my leg at night.

The nurse was very abrupt with me, firing questions and barely giving me time to answer, before asking what the problem was said they'd seen me before, as if I was constantly at casualty. It was my second visit, in the 4 yrs. since I'd returned to my native city.

The nurse told me off for not going to my doctor and wasting time, as they were busy, so I apologised. The nurse then went off to get me some Co-codomal but I never saw them again. I had a look for this nurse but I had the impression the other nurses seemed to be waiting for me. One of them suddenly remembered she'd been looking for me and gave me the pills!

I have had my, basal cell carcinomas treated at this hospital and was never informed, if the last biopsy done was, negative or positive. So, calling at my own surgery I asked the doctor, who had a quick look through my records and told me that it was negative. It wasn't, as I found out when I thought I was having a check-up and they operated on it instead, also re-doing the one behind my right ear, I was shaking like a leaf when they finished, with shock!

I don't think I'll be going back even for my check-up, I'm so upset with their ignorant and callous behaviour.
