My father was admitted to Furness General Hospital, Barrow in Furness, in April 2012 and spent about 2 weeks in a ward in the hospital.
He was then transferred to Abbey View (for those of you who don't know this is within a stone's throw of the main FGH building). I cannot remember the date he was transferred, in any case, it is irrelevant, it is the manner in which he was transferred that is of significance.
Eventually, finding that my father had been transferred to Abbey View and eventually finding my way there (not terrifically well sign posted within FGH! ) lo and behold I find him fully dressed in his outdoor wear - well naturally I and particularly my father thought he was going home.
Wrong! So I asked why wasn't he in bed? "Well, we don't have the paperwork" was the answer. Oops!
I guess it took about 5 hours until (presumably the paperwork arrived) he was actually put into the bed. I won't bore you with the names he called me during this waiting period because he thought I was preventing him from going home. Just let's say it was very distressing.
My father was 93 at the time.
