About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Care of the Elderly

(as a relative),

I would like to thank all the fabulous staff in ward 4 QMH Dunfermline NHSFife for the care they are currently giving my dad at this challenging time. They are so caring towards dad and us when we phone. Mum was very comforted when a staff member face timed with dad so she saw him for the first time since visiting stopped over 4wks ago. Such a shame the ward don't have their own ipad and have to share with other wards. Contact with family is invaluable for both patients and family especially at this time.   If more devices were available to save wards sharing them it would enable patients to maintain contact with their loved ones more regularly. I hope this can be given some consideration.

Response on behalf of Helen Skinner, Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Nurse Consultant,

Dear Gow5

Thank you for your feedback about Ward 4. I am delighted that we were able to connect your mother and father through FaceTime using the iPad on the ward, and that your mother was comforted by this experience.

I am pleased to say that we have a further 16 iPads currently being configured for use in the wards. This will mean every single ward across NHS Fife will have their own device, and where required some will have two or more. I hope your parents continue to connect via video-calling and continue to take comfort from this during this difficult time.

Helen

Thank you Helen. I'll let my mum know she'll be able to soon engage with my dad more often and hopefully my sisters and I will be able to as well given none of us are local.
