"My visit after heart attack"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4)

(as the patient),

After being admitted to the ward I was treated very well. The staff did what they could for me and were, on the whole, civil and pleasant, though you could tell they were under pressure and didn't have the time you would normally like them to have. My only real gripe was the food. Regardless of what ward I was in, the food, with the exception of the minestrone soup, was horrible. Not one meal classed as the "healthy option" on the menu available at any of the meal times during my 5 day stay. Surely this should be rectified so to encourage patients to eat healthier.

Dear Dessie

I am sorry to hear that you were unhappy with some of the food choices on the wards and I will ensure this is feedback to out catering staff.

All our meals have been assessed by NHS Lanarkshire’s Chief Dietician to ensure they offer appropriate nutritional intake and balance and comply with national guidelines.

Regards

Willaim

Dear Dessie,

I trust this finds you on the road to recovery and you're managing your rehab walk(s) during this "lockdown" period.

I'm pleased to hear that you were well cared for, but very disappointed and concerned to hear that no "healthy options" were available at any mealtime during your stay. Food and nutrition play an important part in recovery and recuperation; I'm not sure if you raised this as an issue with staff at the time, but it would be helpful if you could contact my colleagues in Patient Affairs with the dates of your admission so that we can try and understand why that would have been the case.

You can contact them by e-mail patientaffairs.wishaw@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Thanks for taking the time to get in touch, I wish you well with your rehab.

Kind regards

Rick
