"Healthier coping mechanisms"

About: One Recovery Bucks / High Wycombe

(as a service user),

So back in August 2018 I lost my husband suddenly and was left on my own with two very young children. Feeling lost and not knowing where to turn I started using cocaine as a coping mechanism. What started as occasional use such as weekends, slowly starting spiralling out of control and my usage became almost a daily consumption.

I started to engage with ORB in January and to begin with, I was a bit reluctant and didn't take it all to serious, but the more and more I attended and the more and more I opened up and started talking it then became a new, healthier coping mechanism and life started becoming more manageable and less lonely. I went from being a lost soul to a more confident out going person who could finally smile with purpose. So far I am 9 weeks completely clean from cocaine and alcohol. Thank you to all involved at ORB and all my peers x

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your story and experience of our service. I am so sorry to hear about the loss of you husband and I can understand why you made the choices you did to start using.

It is fantastic you stuck with us and started to learn new coping strategies and your loneliness is easing. It is so great to hear that you have found and are maintaining your abstinence (9 weeks that is really great, I hope you can see and celebrate that!)

Keep building your confidence and keep smiling, remember every day is a new day. I appreciate it can be hard especially during these uncertain times, but you are doing great, keep going and accessing the support you need. I hope you have received the new online timetable for our groups where you can stay connected with staff and peers.

Can I take this opportunity to wish you all the very best.

Regards

Tracy
