My mum, 89, has been “ off her legs for about 5 years. My dad, nearly 91, cooks, cleans and shops. He does a great job, but it’s not easy. I have spoken with their GP previously and a practice nurse visited and had a “chat”. Prior to the Easter weekend mum had been feeling increasingly unwell. Dad was scared due to Covid and what that would mean if mum needed to go to hospital.
My brother and I live a long way from our parents and haven’t seen them since lockdown. We persuaded them to call 111. Two lovely, in their words, Ambulance men arrived and gave her a very thorough examination. They gave them both the confidence that mum was was ok. They were fantastic. They also set in motion visits from social services, and occupational therapy.
In 3 working days they now have Zimmer frames, a key safe and other helpful equipment arranged by Emily and Rebecca the OTs. They also arranged delivery of nutritional supplements from the GP. I can’t than them enough, they are miracle workers. Dad is so happy. I wish I knew the names of the ambulance staff to make sure they were thanked. I hope they recognise the story. Thank you so much you are the real Heroes.
"Wonderful ambulance staff and occupational therapists"
