I’d like to say a massive thank you to the staff in A+E and surgical ward at the Western Isles hospital for taking such good care of me on my recent admission with renal colic. I was in excruciating pain which came on suddenly whilst at work, thankfully I got down to A+E where I was seen promptly and my pain sorted immediately. I was treated with kindness , respect and compassion from everyone that I saw and when my pain returned again this was resolved immediately...With a working diagnosis from symptoms, Clinical indications and a previous scan they let me home at my own request with a plan in place to scan the next day and me under strict instructions to return If the pain returned as I was concerned about my dogs at home. Anyway best laid plans and I was back 2 hours later and again treated immediately with my pain acted on as a priority. I’m aware as a nurse renal colic is one of the most painful conditions you can suffer but I now will have a completely different respect for my Pts suffering from it.
From A+E once they were happy I was comfortable I was transferred to surgical ward where I was greeted by the staff, made immediately comfortable in a bed, given further analgesia, cold water to drink and my paperwork dealt with quickly so that I could be left to get some much needed rest. The staff checked regular;y to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed and were again kind and considerate, cheery and respectful and that must be no easy task when caring for me. Thankfully I managed to pass the stone and my pain overall resolved but I had my scan promptly the next morning, and was allowed to go home. My discharge meds were prepared quickly so from me a massive shout out to everyone from the minute I entered through A+E, drs, nurses to the nurses, drs , domestics , pharmacist in surgical ward who without being biased are simply the best to the radiographers in X-ray...I for one am very proud to work for the NHS and although not the best 24 hours of my life I’ll turn it into a positive and use it to reflect and be more compassionate and be able to empathise more with my Pts in similar situations
