"Not accepting prescriptions over the phone is…"

About: The Great Sutton Med. Ctr. (Blue)

Since suffering an injury nearly 5 years ago I've had varied success depending on the staff member you get. Yes the message says they don't take prescription requests over the phone but that's not been the case in numerous times until thankfully they become repeat and then I can use the app, when you phone the surgeon they always ask your name, date of birth, address and the surgery you're with so they have your medical record open with your current medication on, all they need to do is tick s box to submit a request to your GP yet they're more than happy to argue the toss about it. Instead they'll make you get in a car drive over and ask the exact same person you were just talking to put it through, apart from a carbon footprint issue, there's also the fact that most of my medication can cause drowsiness and commit a possible traffic offence just so you can request it in person.

Then there's the triage GP system, apart from a GP not being able to see you while giving medical advice it's not the same as seeing a doctor in person and since the system has been created I've not got a face to face appointment since.

Don't even get me started on the wait time at 8AM to try and get am appointment as you're unable to get an appointment any other time of day and contrasty with the prescription issue of them not taking it over the phone, you can't request an appointment at the deck in person.

Thank you for sharing you concerns. Our policy is that receptionists are not allowed to take requests for prescriptions over the phone and this is to protect the patient in case a wrong item is issued and also to protect the member of staff if such an incident occurs. There are a number of ways you can request a prescription, via online, we have forms in reception or you can order your prescription through your local chemist.

As demand for appointments is higher at 8am we do not make any appointments between 8 and 9am at the reception desk. We do try to encourage patients to ring throughout the day to make an appointment. Appointments requests are now triaged by a GP first by telephone as not everyone who requests a doctor’s appointment needs to see a doctor face-to-face, many problems can be allocated to a colleague or dealt with over the phone. We have found that changing to this system has allowed GP’s to see patients that need to be seen urgently or who have complex needs can be seen on the day and unnecessary visits to the surgery will be prevented for patients.

If you would like to discuss any issues in person, please make an appointment with our practice manager who is always happy to discuss any concerns.
