"Staff"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

Went to A&E at rah paisley as we were advised by doctor on phone. put in a room and left for ages which in normal cases would be okay and bearable, but I am blind and disabled with a lot of health problems, my son who is my carer  wasn’t allowed in despite being told at A&E he could be with me as I was so scared. A nurse then took me  round to day surgery unit which is being used for the Covid 19 patients,  and it was the most unpleasant experience I have ever had.

I can appreciate staff are busy and scared themselves at this terrible time but you still need to treat and show your patients kindness and compassion not ignore them when they are crying and are obviously upset. Their manner towards myself and other patients was very brusque and made me feel as if I was a pest and wasting their time. One staff member could hardly talk to me it was as if it was too much effort and felt like they couldn’t be bothered. I can assure you I don’t go to hospital unless I am forced to as the nurses have more than enough to do, I got a set of obs done blood pressure etc the usual stuff and then was left sitting there with no buzzer or anyone come  ask how I was and if I needed anything toilet etc.

The X-ray girls were lovely they couldn’t have been nicer they took me back to my room and I stayed there for hours again  with no one coming to see if I was okay or if I needed anything , I felt totally helpless was in agony because I had no pain relief and desperate for toilet but there was no one to ask, instead all you could hear where staff talking rather loudly and laughing about what they did, how they didn’t like what they were doing and would be glad to get home etc.

I have never felt so helpless and vulnerable in all my life everybody across the world are out there clapping for the nhs heroes it wasn’t displayed that day. The only thing that made the experience  better was the fantastic care I received from the doctor who was lovely and showed kindness and compassion and said they would call my son explain what was happening, I have been treated by this doctor before and it’s always the very best care they can give you nothing is any hassle and treats patients with great respect.

It’s a shame because it only takes something like this to happen and you lose all your confidence in the people you should trust,  I hope I don’t need to go back think I would rather just stay at home the thought of it fills me with fear
