"So reassuring"

About: Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road Campus)

I suffered a detatched retina which was diagnosed at KCH, who could unfortunately not accommodate me for surgery. I was identified as having a fever and as such, had to be isolated due to COVID 19 precautions. After a whole day of fruitless and very worrying phone calls, I received a callback from a doctor, who talked me through the arrangements that had been made to make it possible for me to have the emergency surgery needed to hopefully save my sight. As someone who suffers with anxiety at the best of times, this was amazing. He even apologised for the fact that he himself would not be on duty when I was admitted, but gave me the names and a glowing recommendation of the team who would be there. I then received a call from a nurse, who introduced herself and ran through the arrangements again, assuring me that she would be there to meet me in the morning. Apart from when I was actually in theatre, she did not leave my side - I’m sure that this was part of the precautionary measures to prevent me infecting anyone, but her kind and cheerful chat, put me at my ease and made a very scary experience bearable. Alongside this nurse, the surgeon, anaesthetist, scrub nurse and anaesthetic nurse, all went out of their way to reassure me - very much appreciated, particularly when I was (through no fault of my own) such a difficult patient. True heroes of our NHS.
