"They have a duty of care to all their patients"

About: Falkirk Community Hospital / Older peoples' services Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Elderly medicine Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Intensive care unit

(as a relative),

My dad was looked after in the ICU for 2 weeks not related to the virus. the care he received was second to none right up to he passed away in march. I would like to pass on my thanks and appreciation to all the staff.

On the other hand my mothering law was in A11 where my husband was ignored when he suggested his mum had a UTI three weeks later she was in falkirk community hospital with really bad delirium it has been a very difficult experience for us all. The attitude we observed around my mother in law as an older patient has been to let her wet and spoil herself instead of answering her buzzer. I know things are not normal just now but it seems to me that the NHS need to realise they have a duty of care to all their patients x

Jacfol

I am one of the consultants from the ICU, and want to thank you for taking the time to send us a message of appreciation at what must be a dreadful time for you and your family. With the difficulties that the coronavirus situation has put upon us, it really boosts our morale to read that you thought the care the ICU staff delivered was second to none.

I know that the whole team will be pleased to read such feedback. We realise how hard it must be for bereaved family members to send these messages, so I want you to know that it is very much appreciated. I don't work on other wards in the hospital, so am not able to comment on the rest of your feedback, but I suspect someone will be in touch.

My best wishes for you and you family at these tough times.

Regards

Dear Jacfol

First of all may I pass on my condolences to you and your family, it really must be a very difficult time for you all.

I really do appreciate you taking the time to get in touch to tell us about the experience of care for your dad and now your mother-in-law.

The standard of care that you have described in your story is not what we expect for any of our patients and their families, please may I like to take this opportunity to apologise and assure you that this is not the standard of care or behaviour we expect from our staff.

There are some things that you highlighted in your story that concern me and would appreciate the opportunity to investigate further, can I ask you to contact me, you can phone 01324 566523 or alternatively you can email me, mailto:Pauline.donnelly1@nhs.net

It was lovely to hear your kind works of appreciation for the staff in ICU and I see they have left you some words of thanks, it really does boost moral of the staff to hear from families.

I hope to hear from you soon, with very best wishes

Pauline
