Was referred to Leverndale by CMHT counsellor for longer term therapy for dissociation and other chronic issues. However the assessor was very condescending and came across as quite contemptuous of my attempts to express and communicate what i was going through. I asked about the possibility for a formal diagnosis but they were very dismissive and said i was 'just looking for help' (implying that was a bad thing). They insistently ignored my attempts to bring up dissociation as an ongoing problem that i face, not putting any effort in to understand me.
It seemed like the assessor looking for any excuse to discharge me and pass me off to the private/voluntary sector. After missing an appointment because i turned up at the wrong time (after forgetting the time was rearranged) they commented this indicated my lack of commitment (not my memory difficulties that i had previously brought up).
Experience was typical of the 7 years i have spent trying and failing to get help through the NHS.
