"FVRH has Two Truly Awesome Nurses"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General surgery Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Surgical Assessment Unit

(as the patient),

I would like to thank two totally amazing nurses from Ward B31 at Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Curstan and Kirsty whom were there for me when I was in a lot of pain following a surgical complication from Bladder resection surgery in March 2020. I know you cannot publish these details online but if you could assure me and advise me that they get recognition for my gratitude I would be most grateful.

Two days after a surgical procedure to resect a cancerous tumour in my bladder the area began to bleed. This meant that clotted blood was building up in my bladder and eventually blocked my urethra. As a result I became unable to pass the urine that was building up in my bladder.

Two days earlier, resection surgery for me was a day visit to hospital and therefore I was at home when the predicament started. My situation lead me to the AE department at FVRH. It was from here I was sent to SAU for a catheter. However due to the fact that so much blood had built up and clotted the catheter installed in SAU was too small to allow the clotting to clear which meant that I was still in a lot of pain that wasn’t getting any better anytime soon.

After an immeasurable period of time and with the pain increasing I was admitted to ward B31 where they deal with Urological matters and by the time I arrived there I was in immense pain.

It’s worth mentioning at this point that I’m not fond of hospitals. I have a fear of being in pain, a fear of needles and a general fear of being out of control of my situation in hospital. However these two nurses, once made aware of these facts were simply amazing in the way that they dealt with my predicament.

Throughout the experience of unclogging my bladder and urethra which took a bit of work and time, one of the nurses, I think it was Kirsty, held my hands and told me to squeeze if I needed to.

A combination of holding hands, compassion, sarcastic humour from both myself and both the nurses and my own hysteria got me through the whole experience. An experience I hope I never have to go through again but I am extremely grateful to both of these nurses for the way that they dealt with my situation.

I hope that they get the recognition they so deserve.

Thanks

Hi Donna,

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me and for acknowledging and passing on my gratitude. Indeed, I agree that you should be proud of all of the staff on ward B31.

Nobody really wants to be in hospital; however every single member of the team throughout my stay in the ward was attentive, helpful, hardworking and extremely caring.

Thank you very much and I assure you that I am well and recovering slowly at home.

Thank you once again.

Kind Regards
