"Emergency treatment"

About: Helston Community Hospital Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Cardiology

(as the patient),

Over here on holiday from New Zealand I woke up very dizzy, nauseous and fatigue.  Had stroke 7 years ago and one TIA episode previously.  Called 111 services, appointment made at Helston Community Hospital later in day, lovely Irish doctor checked me and decided I should go straight to Truro after she had spoken with doctor at Truro.

On arrival at emergency, within 10 minutes I was called by nurse for triage.

Taken through within another 10 minutes, bloods ecg etc taken, stemital for the nausea.  Told a CT scan would be done and I had the CT - this was all carried out so efficiently and in a friendly manner by just about everyone.  Perhaps receptionist and triage nurse could have been a little friendlier!

Finally the registrar and TA nurse came to talk to me.  The results were okay but I was told an appointment would be made with a consultant in the TIA clinic within 48 hours and an ultrasound of my cardios would be done and advised on future care.  This all happened as advised.  Your service is exceptional and i am in the medical profession (or have been, retired now!)

Dear importerqe37,

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback - a trip to the hospital is never what you expect on your holiday. I am so glad to hear that your experience went smoothly and I hope you are recovering well. I will be sure to pass on your comments to our staff - I'm sure they will be grateful especially in the current climate.

Overall you sound rather pleased with your experience, which is amazing, however you mentioned that the receptionist and triage nurse could have been friendlier to you. I am so sorry if this has upset you, and I will be sure to pass on your concerns to the Manager of the Emergency Department to ensure that this doesn't happen again.

Kindest regards

Laura Fletcher
