Last Friday my young daughter took unwell with vomiting, she got increasingly worse over the weekend and on sunday morning I had no wet nappies since Saturday night and she was coughing and seemed breathless- long story short, I knew something was not right.
I phoned 111 the call handler was fantastic she listened to me and immediately spoke to a nurse beside her and got me an appointment with the out of hours service. I arrived at the out of hours and was seen quickly by a doctor. She examined my daughter taking her time and being very calm and listening to my concerns. It was only near the end of the consultation that she made me aware that her temperature was at 38.9 and she was worried about her hydration, this is when I realised the seriousness of the situation. She quickly gave her paracetamol and gave her water in a syringe so she would keep it down. Before I had time to panic she told me she was phoning the hospital and I was to sit in the waiting room and continue to try rehydrating her. Within 10 minutes I was on my way to Crosshouse a&e. In my opinion she was an amazing doctor who kept calm despite my daughter being unwell. I'd love to pass on my thanks!
I also have nothing but praise for ward 1A, clearly a very busy unit but made us feel like we where the only family there. They explained everything to me and even made an attempt at cheering my daughter up. Her temperature and fact she was dehydrated was taken very seriously in my opinion. Thank you so much ward 1A.
