"Waiting times"

About: Woodend Hospital / Elective Orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Waiting Time

Waiting time

For nearly 3years I have & still am ,waiting for a successful treatment for mortens neuroma.what could have been better? Communication between consult &patient.

Felt my care was unacceptable. Lack if communication between consultant & myself.

Didn’t feel the consultant understood the disabling effect it was having in mylife. My mental attitude also suffered as a result of the long time it was taking to get my foot pain

Dear Low123,

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I’m really sorry we have taken so long to get back to you. The elective care team at Woodend are involved with the management of the Covid-19 outbreak which is why I am picking this up as a member of the Quality Improvement and Assurance Team.

Although no treatment can ever be guaranteed to work, our staff should always provide person centred care. Taking time to listen, understand and involve patients in the decisions that are made about their care is extremely important and has been shown to lead to better outcomes. It doesn’t sound like that happened for you which is really disappointing to hear.

There is a lot to reflect on here for the staff involved and I’ll make sure this is shared with them today to look at improvements that could be made to make things better for you and future patients. If you would like to get in touch to tell me more about your experience please email me on: kirsten.dickson@nhs.net.

Take care,

Kirsten
