I have a Severe Hearing Loss, have a Disability and suffer from Depression and Mental Health issues. I was referred by my doctor to a Talking Therapies service in Taunton, Somerset.
Despite making it very clear that I have severe hearing loss and struggle to understand what people are saying to me, I met this person whom despite my appointment being for an hour, rushed me out after 40 minutes, I struggled to understand what was said and told them clearly that I simply could not understand.
I continually struggle to access services within the NHS and it appears to me that no-one in the NHS truly has any understanding of the difficulties those with hearing loss face, not even those working within the ENT unit! No support or assistance was provided or offered to enable me to understand either.
I was then sent an encoded email from Talking Therapies which I was unable to access and now they have sent me a letter stating that they will discharge me because I have allegedly not responded, I did respond telling them that I could not access the encoded email. I'm unclear as to why they have made it so difficult to access their service and feel very disappointed at the lack of awareness surrounding the issues those with hearing loss face on a daily basis!
