Because of incurable cancer I have had to have quite a lot of chemotherapy. At the MDU at Southport I have received not just treatment but constant help and support at a very hard time for me. At the beginning of treatment, when I suddenly became very ill with shingles I telephoned the unit. I was very frightened becuase I knew this was potentially life threatening. I was able to go in immediately and be seen by the doctor. The very best thing is the atmosphere created by all the medical staff which is kind and inclusive, even when they are all run off their feet. They make it a community for some very sick people and the high level of preparation and information given when chemo begins is is excellent. Knowing the unit is there has kept me going at a very frightening time. Long may the unit continue and receive all the funding it needs.
