"Asthma attack"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Ayr / Respiratory Medicine

(as the patient),

I had an asthma attack two days ago, very severe. I had asthma from been a child. I was then asthma free for six years throughout my teens and its now returned, am only 20 years old.

I remember the ambulance coming out so fast, I had this young lady beside me, brown hair, glasses I cant remember her name. But she helped to save my life, she held my hand while I was crying and stayed with me in resuscitation untill she was called out again. She was amazing support. I hope she reads this so I can tell her thank you so much for saving me I cant give to much away but my name is Aimee just hope you remember me.

And thank you to ayr hospital for helping me to breath again. Your staff was incredible, treatment was amazing you all made me laugh considering how vulnerable I felt. I owe you my life thank you for everything.

Dear Asthmawarrior2020,

I am sorry to hear that you had an asthma attack earlier in the week that led to you having to call an ambulance. I am really pleased to hear that a member of the team in Ayrshire provided you with such amazing support. I am really proud of the work our Paramedics and Technicians do day-in-day-out, but when the go above and beyond like this it can make a real difference to someone who is experiencing an eposiode of poor health. I would really like to be able to identify the female staff member who held your hand and stayed with you so I can pass on your feedback.

Would it be possible for you to email me (matthew.cooper3@nhs.net) and let me know the time, date and location of the incident so I can track the crew down and pass on your kind words.

I hope you are on the mend now and have recovered from what sounds like a scary experience.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Asthmawarrior2020,

I am glad you felt so supported and treated well. I understand how awful it is when you struggle to breathe. I will share this with the incredible staff (teams) you mentioned and thank you for taking time to share this with us, it really is very much appreciated by us all.

I hope you are fully recovered now,

Best wishes,

Eunice
