"Blood test refusal for daughter"

About: Amersham Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

Went to the blood test department at Amersham hospital with my teenage daughter and they refused to take her blood there and said we had to make an appointment at the children’s hospital in High Wycombe.

I explained that my daughter had already had several blood tests done by them - as recently as November, and that my daughter would not want blood taken from the back of her hand (which they would do at the children’s hospital) and that she preferred to just have it done as normal with them.

They refused to help, so my daughter has missed precious time from school, I have wasted half a days leave, we now need to take more time and travel over 30 minutes further, to a hospital that is always difficult to park at, wait longer for an important blood test, and just as we are facing the spread of the covid-19 virus, we are being sent to another hospital!   To say we were both frustrated and annoyed is an understatement

Dear Madam

Thank you for taking the time to leave your comments on this website.

I am sorry to read of the problems you have experienced in having your daughter's blood test done.

I would be very grateful if you could contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01296 316042 to talk about your specific experience, and to see how we may be able to assist you at this time.

In the meantime I will share your comments with the bloods team.

Kind regards

Anthony Banton
