"Registrar went above & beyond"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a service user),

Our son attended A&E yesterday morning with a worsening hip problem. He was promptly assessed by one of the A&E registrars, Ewan. Our son has ASD and unfamiliar environments and unpredictable situations can be incredibly challenging. Ewan oversaw his time in A&E and subsequent admission for emergency surgery. Ewan was all we could have wished for, calm, caring, patient, understanding, knowledgable, reassuring - he simply got it, he went above and beyond - putting our son and his needs at the forefront of everything. He was also very supportive to two very anxious parents.

A true credit to the medical profession who in our experience couldn’t be any better suited to emergency medicine.

Dear Nairn Mum,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback. I hope your son is recovering well from surgery. I am pleased to hear that your experience in our department was so positive. Euan will be delighted with this feedback and he will be able to place it in his e-portfolio for his end of year review.

The Emergency Department can be a frightening and confusing place for children and adults with ASD. I am pleased that Euan recognised this and put your son at the centre of everything he did.

We firmly believe in learning from excellence and will share this feedback with all our team via email and at our morning huddle in the hope that we will all learn how important it is to be calm, patient, caring and understanding at all times but particularly when speaking with children who have ASD.

Claire
