"Care of my son"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Monklands / Acute Medical Receiving Unit University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department University Hospital Monklands / Medical Assessment Unit

(as a parent/guardian),

My 22 year old son took seriously ill and was brought to Monklands in an ambulance.

We received excellent care from everyone at every stage until discharge.

Too often it’s all negative but we can’t praise everyone in A&E, MAU and AMRU enough for literally saving our sons live.

He has a rare condition in which the staff admitted they had to google and even with the uncertainty he left feeling better than he has in months

Dear Reets,

Thank you for leaving feedback for us on the Care Opinion platform. It is very much appreciated and allows us the opportunity to see things directly from the patient and family perspective which is super important to our organisation and our values.

I am really sorry to learn that your son was so unwell and that he needed to use our services at University Hospital Monklands. This must have been really worrying for you, especially as your son was so sick. I am really delighted though to hear that we got it right for your son, especially as he has such a rare condition. That must also add to your anxieties as a parent?

You are absolutely right in that sometimes there is too much negative press around service delivery in the NHS and that can have a real negative impact on staff who work tirelessly to make it right and ensure each patient receives care that is very much person cantered. I am very proud to lead the team within the Emergency Care Directorate at University Hospital Monklands and I am certain that the teams in ED, MAU and AMRU will be delighted to read your feedback on your experiences of the care we delivered. This will act as a real morale boost for the staff and allow us to continue to benchmark quality care and treatment.

I do hope your son is now recovering well and wish your son and yourself all the very best for the future.

Gav

Dear Reets,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback on CareOpinion. I am so sorry that your son had reason to use our services and those of the wider NHS. I do hope that he is still feeling better?

It is a position I have found myself in a number of times where I have not known or ever heard of a condition or medication and I have had to get my phone out to use google (other search engines are available). That must be tremendously worrying at times but to hear that the service you and your son received was as described is great!

Thanks again for your comments and give my wishes to your son!

Kind Regards

Alan
