"Birth Centre and labor ward experience"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

So I was in labor with my little boy and went into to the birth centre, where I was examined, they said they would be back to examine me in a couple of hours, they returned in 5. I then went into the birthing pool, I was offered pethidine and got out to check to make sure I was still able to have it but I was too far dilated, I then needed to push so got onto the bed after pushing for 3 hours and nothing happened (despite the midwife telling me he was coming out) I went up to the labor ward to have help with forceps, the Dr there told me there was no way he would of come out without these as his head was against my bone stuck.

After he was born they asked me if I was breast or bottle feeding and I said I wanted to breast feed for the first couple of weeks as I knew how important it was to which the midwife laughed and said there was no point in me even trying so I would bottle feed. I got onto the ward and the midwives told my boyfriend to go home (it was 8 in the morning) I found the labor ward absolutely awful, I got put on antibiotics and they didn't explain to me why (turns out I'd been given an anti Histamine - which I'm allergic to and had an allergic reaction) I asked for paracetamol as I had a headache (I never take anything than more than paracetamol) and was given codeine and not told what it was and then couldn't understand why I felt out of it.

Then day after they had handover in our room (which I found a bit inappropriate as it's confidential and they were pretty much shouting for everyone to hear)

I found some of the staff quite rude and would never choose to have anymore babies there.
