"Agressive Glucoma / High Eye Pressure"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Ophthalmology (eye problems) (Ward 1c)

(as the patient),

I just wanted to thank Doctor Chia , Ophthalmology , Eye Department 1st Floor Gartnavel General Hospital , Glasgow and her team for my glaucoma treatment . I believe Dr Chia was instrumental in what so far appears to be my successful treatment for a form of aggressive glaucoma.

I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Glucoma in 2015 and was reported eye pressures of 50 in the right eye ( a normal eye pressure is 10/15 ) . Initially was given treatment and surgery ( trabeculectomy ) which had limited success . Even after the surgery and multiple corrections involving surgery and needling / blebbing , I was still using multiple eye drops to reduce the eye pressure on the operated eye .

In November 2019 my good left eye was diagnosed with high eye pressure ( 30 and above )

For reasons unknown to myself I was suddenly allocated a new consultant and began to be treated by Dr Chia’s clinic , I would like to say from the very beginning that this was a breath of fresh air , the approach was different , my morale was lifted purely by simple little things like the positive language involved . Previously I was told that everything was going against me ( heal too fast , poor success rate in Asians etc ). However Dr Chia herself lifted me with her positive language ( eg . these are your results but I can do better ) she also explained to me in details the procedures and put me at ease , for once I actually had confidence in my treatment .

To date my eye pressure in both eyes come down dramatically to acceptable / satisfactory levels , my latest hospital appointment in Feb 2020 has reported eye pressures of 10 in the right eye & 16 in the left eye ( currently still on steroids for the left eye which may be causing the slight difference in pressure )

From 2015 and until I was allocated to Dr Chia’s clinic , I was losing faith in the NHS , previously it felt like the treatment I was previously given was unsuccessful and I was just a failed experiment that they did not how to resolve , I felt like the trauma of multiple surgery attempts was all for nothing .

I want to thank Doctor Chia for my latest results , I really appreciate her expertise , knowledge , professionalism and treatment..

This is a service I would NOT have been able to afford if I were to pay for it myself or if I was a citizen of another country where the services are not free to its citizens .

Thank God for NHS Scotland and I thank God for providing me with the right consultant , namely Doctor Chia.
