"Awful place "

About: Shepway Community Mental Health Team

Was invited to join the main community at ash Eaton , as someone with severe borderline personality disorder this was a big step for me , however after 1 day there being told by a therapist I had to eat a community meal when I have serious issues around food , it’s awful like being bullied at school groups of people laughing at you , after one session ended up seriously self harming and being suicidal again , the whole set up is out dated , really quite cruel ,

We are very sorry to note that you felt bullied and derided at the Ash Eton therapeutic community which is not at all what we hope to achieve in our service.

The service is a therapeutic community where clients are encouraged to undertake tasks together, including making a shared meal, but we would not wish anyone to be made to feel uncomfortable in the communities activities beyond overcoming resistance to working as part of a group.

Our experience shows us that people who do engage with the group activity within the community do make significant progress with regard to their well being but this should not lead to people feeling more distressed and we are sorry that you felt distressed through participating in the group.

It would be useful to review your experience more fully in order to learn from this and the Personality Disorder Service Lead, John Rea, would be pleased to speak with you.

You can contact him by calling 01622 776330 and leaving your contact details which John will respond to.

Thank you for highlighting this concern.
