"Trying to access a liaison psychiatrist"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Liaison Psychiatry Nursing team

(as a service user),

The Liaison Psychiatry service last week advised me that there is no Liaison Psychiatrist services available in NHS Grampian at the moment.   If that is the case why are referrals being made?  Where are people to get assessed, diagnosed and receive treatment?  Where is the duty of care?

I requested over a year ago to be referred to this service and only after asking again did another specialist agree.  I phoned and spoke to a liaison psychiatrist about a month ago who said they'd received the referral and that a letter with an appointment should go out to me about two weeks later.  Great.
I phoned liaison psychiatry after that time frame as I still had not heard anything and my cognitive condition is  becoming progressively worse.  The person on the phone confirmed they had a referral, but as there was no liaison psychiatrist in post,  that my papers had not been received and that the service was very busy it was unlikely that I would get an appointment soon.
When I explained what I'd previously been advised by the psychiatrist they went on at great length about having highly qualified nurses whom i might see.  I explained that I needed assessment and diagnosis if appropriate and that surely only psychiatrists can do that.  Unfortunately the person on the phone was talking so fast and without a break that I couldn't understand them.  I have problems with following language, especially over the phone, so I reiterated what I thought they said to check i had understood correctly.  But the person on the phone interrupted me saying i should them her talk.  I was not able to ask any questions.  I simply couldn't understand what they was saying so hung up.  Not a good reaction by me but this is indicative of the very issue i wanted to discuss with liaison psychiatry. They didn't me call me back.
If anyone knows how people in NHS Grampian can access this service in the meantime I'd be glad to know.
