"Having my baby @ QEUH Glasgow"

About: Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50) / Labour suite maternity Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50) / Maternity Assesment/Triage Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50) / Maternity care (Ward 47) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Maternity care (Wards 47, 48 & 50)

(as the patient),

After my waters breaking at 33+5 weeks, the maternity service at QEUH have been fabulous in their care for me. From the initial trip into maternity assessment to being admitted to ward 48, everyone explained everything clearly to me and my husband. I was kept in for 48 hours for observation and the staff on the ward were lovely (despite being ridiculously busy all the time!!).

After my discharge I attended daycare twice a week to monitor my baby's progress, and again despite being ridiculously busy all the time, every midwife I saw was lovely and always took the time to explain everything that was happening and answer any questions that I had.

2 weeks after my waters broke I eventually went into labour naturally at 35+5 weeks. The staff in labour suite could not have been more supportive. As a first time mother I had no idea what labour was going to be like, and they helped to keep myself and my husband calm as I was progressing.

Eventually it became clear that I would have to go for an emergency c section, and despite everything moving at a very fast pace, all staff still took their time to ensure I knew what was happening at each stage.

I had a slightly extended stay afterwards in ward 47, and again I couldn't fault the care and support I received from all the staff in the ward (even when I was being a bit of an emotional mess!).

My little boy ended up spending the night in the neonatal unit when he was born, and the nurses that were looking after him were fantastic. They were so friendly, and really took their time to ensure myself and my husband were put at ease and knew exactly what was happening to our little boy.

I have to say from my experience, the staff within maternity services and neonatal unit at QEUH are just wonderful. They are a credit to the hospital!!
