"Bone marrow biopsy"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Clinical haematology

(as the patient),

I went for my bone marrow biopsy yesterday at University hospital Wishaw and was seen my Jane and her assistant Linda. I had been feeling apprehensive about the procedure, however after speaking through everything with Jane I felt a bit more at ease. I can honestly say the procedure was not as bad as I had anticipated. I didn't really feel any pain, it is an odd feeling though just not sore. What I did experience was pain on my sciatic nerve that ran down my right leg to my knee. After the procedure was complete the pain was gone and within a couple of hours my leg felt back to normal. I haven't experienced any other pain.

Overall my experience was good and I credit this to Jane and Linda and their incredible knowledge and excellent bedside manner. For anyone that has Jane doing their procedure your in great hands. My advice would be to relax as much as possible.

Hi Vicky277,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experiences of the bone marrow biopsy clinic at the day unit in University Hospital Wishaw. It is always valuable to gain insight from the perspective of people receiving treatment and care to better understand what factors make a difference to them. I am pleased that the procedure was not as bad as you anticipated but am sorry to hear that you did have some pain which subsequently resolved. I will ensure that your feedback is shared with Jane and Linda.

Wishing you well

Mhairi
