"How Patient and Family Centred this ward was"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 21-23)

(as a relative),

My 87-year-old dad who has dementia fractured his leg were he had a hip replacement over 32 years ago and had to go through an operation to fix it.

My dad doesn't keep in the best of health and has been refused operations in the past due to this but this orthopaedic operation was necessary, My dad was admitted into Ward 23. We as a family were very worried due to past history with other wards in this hospital but from the minute we arrived on the ward the staff were very attentive.

The 1st member of staff I met was Amy she reassured me and told me if we weren't happy to let them know straight away I still had my doubts then I met Stacey who informed me that I could stay with my dad as long as we needed and when my dad was going down for his operation I could go with him till he went through and they would let me know as soon as he was out of surgery so I could go meet him to help reassure him all this happen.

I couldn't believe how Patient and Family Centred this ward was for the last 4 weeks my dad has been cared for with pain relief, liquid meds, hygiene, by all the staff of ward 23 from auxiliary, housekeeping, nurses, surgeons, doctors, students and to name a few  Amy, Susan, Kay, Mhari, David, Callum, Sarah, Claire's, Lady Karen, Roxanne, Carol, Neesha, Miss McKenna and I am more than certain I have missed loads out but you are all a fantastic team how you looked after not only my dad but my mum and the rest of our family nothing was ever to much trouble for any of you Your Ward Sister should be proud of you all

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion about your experience as a family in Ward 23. It is our aim to provide all patients with the same level of care within our wards. I am very pleased to hear your Father was treated with the compassion and dignity he deserves. Ward 23 has done some great work with all aspects of nursing patients with dementia we have our own Dementia Champion and it is great you feel your Father benefited from that service.

I have passed on your good wishes to the Ward Sister Jocelyn McLaughlin and she will feedback your lovely comments to her staff.
