In February 2020 we sadly lost my Dad to Alzheimer’s disease. Prior to his death he was admitted to Ferryfield House for end of life care from St John’s Hospital in Livingston.
It was a move that the whole family fretted over- you hear so many stories of poor care in these settings. We need not have worried.
From the moment we arrived we were reassured and made to feel welcome by all the staff in the Rowan ward. Nothing was too much trouble and any concerns were dealt with immediately. Everyone was cheery and there was a lovely atmosphere in the building.
It was also fantastic to have the little haven of the hub to retreat to, with tea, coffee, biscuits and a wee radio. My daughter loved the big connect 4 game!
In our time there the staff had also organised a burns celebration for the patients with lots of singing and dancing which was lovely to see.
Dad spent 3 weeks at Ferryfield and we couldn’t have asked for better care. Both the nursing and medical staff kept us regularly updated and all decisions were made together. When the end came it was made easier by being told and reassured of the stages of the dying process and we were so impressed by the sensitivity and professionalism of all the staff involved.
Thank you to every one of you who made Dads final days so comfortable. You are all a credit to your profession.
Best Wishes
The Whole family
