"A surgeon and her team"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Accident & Emergency Ninewells Hospital / Acute Surgical Receiving Unit Ninewells Hospital / General Surgery Ninewells Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Ward 7 Ninewells Hospital in February 2020, through Accident & Emergency after suffering severe abdominal pain that started suddenly after a small bowel movement. I had been suffering from being bloated and my tummy swelling for several months as well as constipation.

I was given Morphine for the pain and kept in over the weekend and moved to ward 8 on Sunday awaiting a CT Scan.

I had the scan on the Monday and was informed I had a 20cm Cyst on my ovary as well as inflamed small bowel.

I was referred to gynaecology and 1 of there Doctors came and spoke to me and plans were made for me to have the cyst removed, hopefully during my stay.

On the Tuesday I was introduced to Vimala, Consultant Obs & Gynae who explained everything to me then we discussed in detail the way forward.

A plan was made for me to have surgery on Wednesday which Vimala would be carrying out if before 5pm.

I was prepared and fasted from 12:00am Wednesday morning, with water allowed until 6:00am.

I was so scared, I’m not going to lie.

I was about to have major surgery and it was complex but felt so much more at ease after speaking to and finding out the plans from Vimala. She really put me at ease.

I received my surgery on the Wednesday and could not believe my eyes when I looked at my tummy for the 1st time, expecting to see it cut upwards or across as agreed should it need to, but instead found 5 small dressings on small entrances including my belly button.

I worried and wondered how she  managed to get the large cyst out and was reassured when Vimala informed me that all went well and the large cyst had been removed through my womb and that they’d found another cyst the size of an orange attached to my other ovary which was removed also.

I have never been so relieved and amazed at how I felt after such a major operation(Total Hysterectomy with Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy).

I can’t thank Vimala and her dedicated team enough and will be forever grateful for everything they done for me.

God bless every one of them.

Not enough praise and positivity is given to people like her and her team for all the amazing work they do/have done ❤️
